What happens to a student credit card when you graduate?

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

I am a rising senior in college and am thinking about getting a credit card. When I graduate next year, what would happen with that card? Would I be able to keep using it like normal? Would I trade it in for another “non-student” version? Would they close the account and make me apply for a new card?

Any experience with this?

Who is responsible for these credit card bills?

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

My daughter-in-law just left on a trip with the children. She left my son with a note telling him about $75,000 of credit card debt that she has run up during their marriage. He had absolutely no idea that these charges were made. We suspect that she was giving money to her sister and family. Perhaps they even signed for the purchases. Is he going to be responsible for this debt? He is planning to separate and eventually divorce.

My husband was a contracted courier. What is the credit that the IRS gives you for each mile driven? I know that its better to claim mileage than gas receipts. I was just wondering.

What can happen if a credit card company sues you when you had a third party supposedly paying the bills?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Today, my roommate gets a call from Chase Card stating that they are going to bring her to court. She has been making payments of over $100 a month to Consolidated Credit Counseling Services for almost two years and her debt was supposed to be almost paid off. I think she owed around $2400 or so. Chase tells her that the payments have been late or non-existent from CCCS and she still owes about $1900.
However, Chase gives her the option to pay $1500 now or they will sue her. My roommate doesn’t have $1500 readily available. She didn’t know that the bills wasn’t getting paid because no statements were coming. Also, nothing in writing came as a warning for the lawsuit. Chase said they sent it to CCCS, who never notified my roommate. Is there anything that she can do? Any suggestions?

Will asking my credit card companies to reduce my account limit help me get a better mortgage?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I ‘ve noticed that my two credit cards just increased my limits to more than 10k. I’ve heard that having too much potential credit is bad for mortgage lenders. Would it help if I get my credit card limits down?

How to buy a used car without great credit?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I have a trade in that’s worth about $2500 and all I need is a used bigger vehicle. I’ve tried a few places but my credit is too slow (or so they say). I’m getting a little frustrated because most people have no problem getting cars, no matter what their credit looks like. Anyone have any suggestions?
