Has anyone heard of losing money when you have your savings in a CD or savings account?

Friday, October 9th, 2009

My mom seems to think that when these banks go under, that you can lose all your money but aren’t they insured by FDIC if they are in regular accounts? And is a credit union any better than a bank?

Should people be more accountable for bank fees?

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

I know that banks charge big fees & such for bounced checks, overdraft fees, paying the largest check 1st & bounce the other 3, some even charge per week for being overdrawn. But when do we turn to ourselves & say “I have a lot of control over the fees I am charged”. If you have $50 in account, write 4 checks for $100 each & get mad we got $30 fees X 4?

I work for a credit union & make no excuse for kicking someone when down! But come on! There are errors on the banks & publics side but Im talking about the regular everyday stuff. People who overdraft 10-15X/month, live off the o/d loans, use other ATMs 2X/day & get fee of $4 to get $20!

And I know that $30 is a high fee for o/d by $2. But it is called a penalty for a reason! It is to discourage the use of. Do you think it really costs a city $30 b/c you didnt put a dime in the meter? No, its to teach a lesson for next time to be careful. Just like credit cards, folks complain about late & over limit & still charge any way!

I brought this topic up because I was reading an article on MSNBC about fees charged for small purchases.

Why blame the bank b/c you dont keep track of spending? Or just dont care? What about personal accountability? I am as much a consumer advocate as the next guy, but are we not to share in the blame for this? If we stopped making it so profitable for banks because we dont write down we went to the store, there would be no fees!

Again, I know that we all make mistakes, I have done it myself. Cant we accept our mistakes as that & move on? Why must the blame go to the deep pockets because we cant add & subtract?

I applied for a bank job on tuesday, no call back yet?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

I applied at this local credit union, whaich i have banked at for years. i have a ton of retail cutomer service, like 11 years. since i was 17. have no criminal record.

and i was referred by someone who waits on me most of the time that i come in, the bank manager of this location also knows who i am, csue i come in about once a week or once every other week, THe lady who refered me says that she was going to put in a good word for me and that they were hiring.

they have four locations, and they aren’t four tiny branches either, decent to medium sized.

DO you think that they will call me?
or you think i ought to look elswhere.

First-time Credit Card?

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Hello,
My name is Olivia and I’m 18 years old, I am currently unemployed but am actively job searching. Unfortunately, because the economy is so poor it is quite hard. However, I want to sign-up for my first credit card; I don’t want to apply for a charge card, because honestly I don’t have much money. And I don’t want to be limited to a “department”/store card because I want to be able to use my card at various places. I don’t have bank account currently but as soon as I get a job I plan to open a bank account with Tyndall Federal Credit Union, it’s a military bank; my grandfather was in the military and is now a veteran, and I am claimed as his dependent. BUT I cannot open a bank account currently, so credit cards issued by the bank are not available to me either. Lastly, secured credit cards are also unavailable to me due to the fact that again I don’t have much money.

I have never paid bills, and I literally have absolutely no credit. I am not currently attending school, but I should be enrolled in a community college by May 6th, 2009.

If possible I’d like to apply and have a credit card before them.

I know it’s a little crazy to apply for a credit card, under the circumstances. However, I do make a small allowance at home; approximately $200-300.00 a month, but that income varies depending on the amount of chores and tasks that are available for me to complete at home.

I am a dependent still, even though I’m “technically” and adult. My grandfather/guardian makes about 140,000.00 a year, has great credit, and has never had late fees or anything like that. But he won’t help me due to past experiences.

I don’t know if this will play into my application but when I was a juvenile (about 13-17) I racked up multiple charges; being that I was under 18 I was never “convicted” but I was “declared deliquent”. My “probation officer” informed me that on applications I do not have to say “yes” to my being “charged or convicted”. My most recent charge was when I was 17, on February 28th, 2008; my charges were Forgery, Check Fraud, Grand Theft, VOP’s, the charges directly before that were 2 counts of Credit Card Fraud, 2 counts of Grand Theft, among other minimal charges.

I unfortunatly still owe restitution to a check cashing business in the amount of 7,200.00. Which is my point in finding a job.

Please don’t judge my past, I mean I do want honest opinions; but I was sentenced to a year in a juvenile facility where my life truly changed. I am no longer the person I was.

I would like to apply for a standard credit card. I would appreciate all the information you can provide about my specific case.

What credit card can I or should I apply for?

And if you could include some info about credit cards, etc. I would appreciate it being that I’m not to familiar with them.

Thank you so much for all you help

Low credit score looking into different car?

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

I need a little advice on what to do. I have had my used car for 2 years and I have a little over 6,000 left on my loan. I have never been late on a payment before and now I am looking to trade it in straight up for a car that gets better gas mileage. I think my credit score has gone down some since I got this car because I had medical bills that went to collections (every bill I got in the mail from the hospital said insurance pending so I didn’t pay it and the next thing I know they are in collections!!!) Anyway, within a week of them going into collections I paid them off and now I think my score is a little lower but I am looking into getting this different car. Since it is going to be the same amount that I have left on my loan do you think it’s possible that I can get approved for financing it? I have banked at my credit union for a long time. Any other suggestions. I had my credit pulled recently and my 3 scores ranged between high 500’s and low 600’s.
Also my only debt is my car loan. I have two credit cards I pay off every month I have lived and worked at the same place for a year now.
