I just got my monthly bank statement in the mail 2 days ago .I was very busy and did not open it until today. I looked at the top and there was another name under mine. I have NEVER heard of this person and NEVER had a joint account. This is the fist month i had this problem. There was no money missing or suspicious charges. I called the bank and they said there was no signature from the other person on the account but the lay confirmed that there was another name on my account. Has anyone had this problem….i have to go down to the branch tomorrow when they open. I hope my account is ok. Thanks for any help

Threaten to switch banks if they dont resolve your issue.

Probably a clerical error, but; DO GO PERSONALLY to check it out.

You have 31 days to ‘protest’ a bank statement. Be sure to get this checked out and check ALL your other accounts too - cable, telephone, magazines, water, hydro, etc.. Could be the beginning of an attempt to steal your identity.

My GUESS is that someone with a similar name added the person to their account and the teller entered the information in the wrong file on the computer. If that is the case, your account should be fine. You do need to have it corrected, but it could be a legitimate error. That said, keep an eye on your account for the next few months.

I wouldnt take a chance. The bank should beable to tell you when the name was added and who added it. They should have a record of everything that happens on your acct. if you feel it wasnt a clerical error then you need to have your acct # changed to prevent fraud

You need to keep on the bank to resolve the problem. They should, for your protection, close the account and open a new one. In opening the new account any charges associated with it (check printing, etc) should be waived. Just be sure that you change any automatic drafts as well.
